Emergency Stain Care: Natural Fiber Rescue Guide
Your beautiful new Wool, Sisal, Jute, or Seagrass flooring is made from 100% natural fibers. Because of this, it requires completely different care than synthetic carpets. Standard wet carpet cleaners, steam cleaners, or heavy flooding will permanently stain and shrink natural weaves.
If an accidental spill occurs, do not panic. Follow these exact, immediate steps to extract the mess safely using your HOST Dry Carpet Cleaner kit OR a small amount of liquid detergent and water.
The Golden Rule: Never scrub heavily, never flood the material with water or liquid cleaning products, and never leave the stain wet or damp!
Phase 1: The Instant Blot
Time is your absolute best friend. If the spill is fresh and wet:
-
Press, Don't Rub: Take a clean white cotton towel or a heavy layer of white paper towels. Press straight down firmly onto the spot to soak up the liquid. Never scrub heavily back and forth, as this permanently damages the delicate woven fibers and spreads the moisture.
-
Repeat: Keep swapping to a fresh, dry section of the towel. Repeat this until absolutely no more wetness transfers and the area feels as dry as possible.
Phase 2: Immediate HOST Sponge Extraction
The HOST compound consists of natural, organic cellulose sponges. They work by breaking down and physically drawing the spilled substance out of the tight natural weaves instantly through brushing.
-
Pack the Area: Open your sealed HOST packet or container. Pour a generous, thick layer of the dry compound sponges directly over the entire accident zone, extending slightly past the edges of the spot.
-
Gently Brush the Weave: Using a soft-to-medium bristle hand brush, work the sponges into the woven texture. Brush in a cross-hatch pattern: first North to South, then East to West. Brush gently—the mechanical action of the bristles and sponges should do the work, so never scrub heavily.
-
The 2 to 4-Minute Dwell: Leave the sponges to sit for 2 to 4 minutes. This allows the compound to fully absorb the trapped moisture and break down the spill residue before extraction.
-
Vacuum Away: Turn on your household vacuum and vacuum the area thoroughly in multiple directions. The dirty, waste-filled sponges are lifted away into your vacuum chamber instantly.
The Emergency Rescue Step (For Heavy Discoloration Only OR if no sponges are available)
If you complete the steps above and notice heavy discoloration is still present because the spill has deeply bonded to the fiber, use this targeted liquid method:
-
The Mix: In a small bowl, mix a tiny amount of gentle liquid washing detergent with a cup of lukewarm water.
-
The Action: Lightly dampen the corner of a clean white cloth in the soapy water and gently dab or press at the discoloration. Remember: never flood the material with water or liquid cleaning products; use only enough to lightly moisten the stained surface fibers.
Phase 3: CRUCIAL STEP – Rapid Drying
The most critical factor in preventing watermarks, fiber shrinkage, or ongoing damage is making sure you never leave the stain wet or damp!
-
The Second Absorb: Take a fresh, completely dry white cotton towel (if necessary) and press straight down onto the area again with your full body weight to absorb any remaining deep-down moisture that the brushing or emergency dabbing brought to the surface.
-
The Hairdryer Flash-Dry: Take a standard household hairdryer and set it to a medium heat setting. Blow-dry the area thoroughly to flash-evaporate any hidden moisture.
-
Keep a Safe Distance: Important: To avoid burning or scorching the natural plant and wool materials, always keep the nozzle of the hairdryer at least 20cm away from the floor and keep it moving continuously across the spot. Never hold it static in one place until you are certain the fibers are 100% dry.
