What sets us apart

In a small inner-city suburb of Adelaide resides Natural Rugs: a family owned business producing custom made, natural fibre rugs.

What really sets Natural Rugs apart from other rug businesses is our ability to make custom rugs of any shape and size. You can just let us know which material and what size you’d like, and we’ll send you through a quote (fill out our Custom Rug enquiry form here).

Using sustainable woven fibres including Jute, Seagrass, Sisal, Coir and Wool sourced only from ethical suppliers, we cut and hand-assemble the material into finished custom sized rugs.

This is our main point of difference; we don’t import pre-made rugs.  All of our rugs are hand-assembled right here in our Adelaide warehouse by locally employed workers.

“Our team of rug makers are experts in their field”, says Natural Rugs Director, Chris Wansley.  “They’re trained from scratch by us to work only with our complex woven natural fibres and there is a real artistry to their work.”

In this busy modern age, objects crafted by the human hand are special and unique. Each rug is given the care, precision, and attention to detail to help it stand the test of time.

Due to the highly durable nature of natural fibres, our rugs are a long-term investment.  As Natural Rugs is one of the only providers of custom made natural fibre rugs in Australia, we see many repeat customers. “We’ve had customers we made rugs for 15+ years ago, back when the rugs were just an offshoot of our wall to wall business, who are coming back for more”. says Chris.

A major advantage of local assembly is minimised lead time.   As we store materials and assemble rugs in the same location, production time is quite short, at just 2-3 weeks from placement of order, plus shipping.

“Customers are usually quite surprised when we tell them how quickly we can get their rug to them. I think they’re used to international production and shipping, which can take up to 3 months!” says Cat Morgan, Natural Rugs Managing Director.

With a passion for human rights, its crucial for Cat that all of our woven materials are sourced from suppliers that have the same values as us. “What’s really important is that we align on sustainable and ecological processes and ethical work culture.”

Cat and Chris value nurturing relationships with their suppliers “It’s rewarding, knowing we’re still working with the same suppliers my father did” Cat says. We work with a GoodWeave licensed supplier in India and a supplier in China.

“Our use of eco-friendly durable materials is designed to counteract today’s throw away culture and stand the test of time.”

“We are really proud of the high-quality work we do and the lovely, long-term relationships we’ve developed along the way”.
